As the charitable arm of Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC), the Educational Resource Centre (ERC) provides hands-on learning and career exploration opportunities for girls in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Our STEMforGIRLS programs have provided opportunities to thousands of girls in urban, rural, and remote communities, giving them valuable knowledge and experiences that shape their education pathways and future careers.
The objectives of WRDC’s ERC are to:
- increase the understanding of STEM as a foundation for all careers,
- improve gender balance in STEM post-secondary programs and careers, and
- increase creativity and innovation in STEM fields by creating a diverse, inclusive, and gender-balanced workforce.
Our core activities focus on bridging the gender gap in STEM by providing inclusive and empowering experiential learning experiences.STEMforGIRLS empower girls and gender-diverse youth with the confidence-building experiences, career information, and community connections needed for successful futures in STEM. If they can see it, they can be it. Those who identify as women and gender diverse are critically underrepresented in STEM-related fields. Students network with women and gender-diverse professionals who play active roles as presenters, mentors, and activity leaders.
Built on the foundation of 20 years of successful in-person events, the ERC’s STEMforGIRLS continues to offer programming across the province in partnership with local, regional, and national groups and communities to maximize outreach and lasting engagement. Events can be tailored for specific populations, geographical areas, or partners eager to #MakeTomorrowBetter.
