The You Wear it Well…Just for Grads Society provides formal graduation attire – at no cost - to at-risk students in Surrey and New Westminster, British Columbia. Students are referred to our program via school counselors, youth workers, teachers, or administrators.
Our work culminates in a “Boutique Day” held in early March each year. On this day, grads who have been accepted into our program are invited to choose a gown/tuxedo and accessories. Other services provided for them - free of charge - include hair styling and make up services, professional photos, and a buffet. Students are invited to bring a guest (usually a parent or caregiver) and are assigned a ‘Personal Assistant’ (volunteer) for the day, whose job is to make sure the student feels pampered and special during their visit.
Most of our students have endured hardships that make attending school difficult, and the prospect of attending graduation is a financial impossibility for them and their families. Many would not graduate without our support. It has been our experience that, by removing the barriers that prohibit these students from attending their graduation festivities, most of them are encouraged to complete their high school education.
We provide so much more than ‘just a grad dress’ – students leave our program with renewed confidence and hope for their futures.
