Our Mission
YWCA Westman advocates for, supports, and empowers women, children, and future generations through community collaboration and networks to address and prevent gender-based violence.
Our organization is compassionately led by women, for women.
The Westman Women’s Shelter offers safe, emergency accommodation to women and their children who are fleeing family violence. The shelter is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The shelter can accommodate up to 24 women and children and has a common dining room, large children’s playroom, and living room and laundry facilities. Trained counsellors offer information, make appropriate referrals to community agencies that include assistance with legal issues, locating housing and offer daily counselling sessions to both women and children. The shelter also offers individual and group counselling to women and children, follow-up support, children’s programs, public education and a 24 hour crisis line for people who experience abuse and in the community.
