Welcome to A Home for Hooves

As a registered charity, we are committed to providing a safe haven for rescued, abandoned, and surrendered farmed animals, as well as some domesticated companions.

Our Mission

At a Home for Hooves we provide farmed animals with a forever home that emulates a natural and enriching environment. We strive to educate the public through sharing knowledge and stories about the lives of farmed animals that inspire a compassionate lifestyle.

Our History

As the sole farmed animal sanctuary on Vancouver Island, A Home for Hooves was founded in September 2017. We are proud to be the first farmed animal sanctuary in Canada to be accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, a recognition of our commitment to providing high-quality care and welfare for the residents.

Our Residents

We currently care for over 170 residents at A Home for Hooves, including: cats, chickens, dogs, ducks, geese, goats, guinea pigs, mini donkeys, mini horses, a partridge, a pigeon, pigs, rabbits, sheep, and turkeys.

Our Approach

At A Home for Hooves, we believe that every animal deserves a forever home that emulates a natural and enriching environment. With your support, we provide our residents with nutritious food, a safe and comfortable place to sleep and rest, timely medical care, and plenty of love and care.

Education and Outreach

Empowering a kinder world, one story at a time. We share the stories and experiences of the residents to inspire compassion and understanding of the importance of farmed animal rescue and sanctuary. We offer humane educational programs and public tours to foster empathy and encourage positive change for farmed animals.
