AdaptAbilities’ Core Purpose is to empower families and individuals with disabilities to grow, succeed, and belong.

Our mission is to support vulnerable, disadvantaged, marginalized, and at-risk individuals. Specifically, (1) parents/guardians who are raising children with disabilities often are in crisis or face severe stress and challenges, such as mental illness, suicidal ideation, loss of employment, addictions, marital breakdown, isolation, loneliness, or having to hand their children over to government care. AdaptAbilities provides a wide range of respite opportunities (meaningful breaks for self-care or to go to work) where parents can recharge, rest, take a break, meet with a friend or mentor, work on their family relationships, or go to work. 

(2) The children, youth, and adults with disabilities that we support in these families benefit from the unique programs we provide to meet individual needs and address gaps in the system. Programs include expressive arts, essential life skills, motor development, developing friendships among participants, and involvement in the community through volunteering or employment.

As a pan-disability organization, we serve children, youth, and adults with a wide variety of disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Asperger Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, Tourette Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Anxiety Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and the Hearing Impaired.
