Assist is a charitable organization devoted to supporting Alberta lawyers, law students and their families. Research shows that lawyers and law students have high rates of mental health and substance use issues, more than triple and double, respectively, the rates in other similarly-educated professions.

Assist provides free and confidential professional counselling services, trains peer support volunteers and matches callers with a lawyer or student with experience in or insight into an issue, creates communities for lawyers to combat isolation and loneliness which are precursors of depression, and educates the profession about causes of addiction, mental health issues and emotional distress with a view to reducing the incidence of these issues.

Our vision is to prevent stress from becoming distress, prevent distress from becoming crisis and prevent crisis from becoming long-term or terminal.
