As integrated community institutions and custodians of community identity, museums are uniquely positioned to collect the unique perspectives of their community and to explore innovative solutions that help their communities adapt to change.
The Alberta Museums Association (AMA) leads, facilitates, and supports museums in their vital role with communities and leverages its programs to ensure that Alberta’s museums are leading contributors to the social, cultural, and educational fabric of Alberta.
About the AMA
Established in 1971, the Alberta Museums Association (AMA) is a member organization for museums and museum professionals. The AMA is a leader and catalyst for dynamic connections among museums and communities and ensures that Alberta’s museums remain vital and sustainable through career development opportunities, grant funding, award-winning publications, advisory services, and strategic communications.
Get Involved
Your donation to the Alberta Museums Association will increase its ability to support a robust museum community of museums and museum professionals who effect real change in Alberta’s communities. There are three ways to direct your donation:
- Unrestricted Funds (your donation goes directly to the programs, services, and events that support museums throughout Alberta)
- Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility (this award supports and furthers the work of museums that are solving community issues and promoting health and wellbeing)
- Knowledge Development Bursary (this program provides support to museums professionals to develop their skills and knowledge)
The Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility
The Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility is an annual award that recognizes, supports, and furthers the work of museums that are taking action to support and promote the social, cultural, and environmental health and well-being of their communities.
The Award is made possible through an ongoing donation from Dr. Janes and relies on matching community funding to continue directly supporting museums that are true contributors to the social, cultural, and environmental fabric of Alberta.
Recipients of the Robert R. Janes Award for Social Responsibility receive $3,000 to investigate their drivers for success, scale up their activities, and host a workshop designed to model their lessons and successes for other institutions.
