Our process works because we listen, respect and value Indigenous views. This underpins all that we do. By being respectful in this way we hope to ensure our longevity in communities.
The workshops brings several benefits for youth and their communities. They're encouraging, participatory, inspiring and empowering. The youth create and they do. Our process enhances recall and helps facilitate dialogue about difficult topics the young people are experiencing.
The created products (murals, wall paintings, songs, music videos, showcases) we've created with youth bring their own benefits of instilling pride, communicating information, raising awareness, conveying emotion, and drawing youth into learning, owning and sharing. mostly intangible and innate, these long-lasting feelings can bridge, change, and challenge traditional and conventional norms youth experience daily. When you empower a young person, give them strength, the creativity to feel, they respond, they bring cultivate their own purpose. That self sufficiency is what will change youth perceptions in the north.
