North York Women’s Shelter actively supports the rights of women and children to build lives free of violence by providing non-judgmental safe shelter, advocacy, and a range of programs & services including 24-hour crisis support.

About North York Women's Shelter

North York Women’s Shelter has been helping to rebuild lives since 1984. Our new, secure, fully accessible 24,000 square foot complex consists of two distinct but linked buildings. After almost 3 years of construction, we opened our doors in March, 2020.It is secure, accessible 24,000 square foot Violence Against Women (VAW) complex that is a first of its kind in Canada. This exciting, evidence-based design will feature two distinct but linked buildings – a new, 17-bedroom emergency residence (with capacity to house 30-40 women and their children) and a community service hub offering prevention programs and trauma-specific care and services.

We offer an Expressive Arts Therapy program and Mental Health Trauma Therapy program. Our programs are open to shelter residents, former residents, and women and children in the community who are at risk of or are currently experiencing violence.
