Northern Youth Abroad enables youth aged 15 to 22 living in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories to acquire professional skills and training, hands on work experience, and high school credits through a cross-cultural work and learning experience in southern Canada and abroad.
NYA seeks to foster cross-cultural awareness, individual career goals, and international citizenship in Northern youth. We promote leadership development, self-confidence and self-esteem by providing life-changing experiences.
About Northern Youth Abroad
NYA serves to enhance student participation and success in education, career development and community leadership, enabling youth to become full participants in the ongoing development of Canada’s North. As a result of more than 21 years of operations, we have more than 500 alumni and have seen success in increasing high school graduation rates and helping to build a skilled and well-educated northern workforce.
NYA's model of education through work and travel operates as separate but related 10 month long programs. NYA offers three core programs - the Canadian Program, the International Program, and NYA Next. Each program operates over a 10 month period and is highlighted by a 6-week summer placement in southern Canada or internationally.
