Okanagan Fruit Tree Project

À propos

The Okanagan Fruit Tree Project Society's mission is to "cultivate community through local food". Our amazing volunteers help us grow and harvest thousands of pounds of fruits and vegetables that are then shared with organizations that support people who are food insecure. Food insecurity is when a person our household does not have enough money to buy the food they need to support their health and wellbeing.

Our food donations support over 90 schools and social service agencies in the Okanagan supporting children & youth, families, the elderly, folks who are disabled, Indigenous community members, Persons of Colour, new immigrants, and folks in the LGBTQIA+ community. Our donated produce is used in hampers & backpack programs, meal and snack programs, and cooking programs. Our volunteers also get to share in the harvest, and we provide a tax receipt to farmers and orchardist for their produce donations - it's a win-win-win!!

In our Produce Rescue Program, our volunteers visit homes, orchards, and farms to harvest food that would otherwise go to waste. In our Farming Program, our volunteers grow and harvest vegetables at our 1/2 acre farm plot. Both programs are inclusive and we welcome any member of our community to dig in the dirt with us and learn about local food. We also have our Collaborative Harvest Program, where we partner with local social service agencies who bring out their own program participants to help out with growing and harvesting produce - it's a great experience that is good for the body, mind, and soul!
