About OLD STRATHCONA YOUTH SOCIETY

The Old Strathcona Youth Society connects youth 14-24 to appropriate community resources and services. This is done in two ways: resources are brought to the youth at OSYS by way of service providers from various community agencies, and by OSYS staff identifying needs and making appropriate referrals to external community agencies.

GOALS:

1) Youth access information, resources and services to meet their identified needs.

2) OSYS integrates youth and community to create a safe and positive environment.

3) Through individual and systemic advocacy, youth will have access to appropriate, relevant and timely services.

Many of the youth experience difficulty with trust and often prefer not to be connected to mainstream society/services. Through initial relationship building with staff and volunteers, youth are engaged to talk about their needs and concerns, and are supported in addressing identified needs. In building trust they are more willing to take a risk to use services.
