Our Mission
Founded in 2008 by Sarah Wallace, Olive Tree Projects Society (OTP) was created to serve and save the children of Haiti. Although orphanages and schools are typically recognized as children based programs, OTP has also recognized the effect maternal care can have on a child’s life. To help save the children, we have to save the moms.
Olive Tree Projects cares for the health and well-being of mothers and children in Haiti.
About OLIVE TREE PROJECTS SOCIETY
Olive Tree Projects runs a maternity centre just outside of Jacmel city, in the south of Haiti, providing accessible prenatal, labour and delivery, and post natal care to women in the community. OTP charges a small fee for its prenatal to postnatal care at the maternity centre. This way, we are not adding to the culture of dependency that is created through hand-outs.
Education classes are offered weekly to the mothers and their partners. Topics vary from breastfeeding to family planning.
Through our nutrition program, we offer weekly nutritional classes for the mothers of malnourished children while monitoring the growth of these children who are being treated with a three month course of Medika Mamba, a highly fortified peanut butter meal.
The projects of OTP are run by an In Country Director of Operations and local qualified Haitian staff.
