About ONTARIO HEADWATERS INSTITUTE

Established in 2003, the OHI initially focused on headwaters, the foundation of our watersheds, as well as their economic and social vitality.

We expanded our mandate include full watershed management, natural heritage, and the health of receiving waters such as the Great Lakes in 2018, and refined that further to watershed security in 2023.

We address these issues through two main portfolios, Research & Education and Public & Organizational Engagement, as well as through special  projects..

We are committed to collaborative efforts in partnership with organizations that share a common vision. Past collaborative efforts include facilitating numerous community discussions on watershed health with hundreds of participants and score of regional partners; the WaterScape program for increased action for resilient landscapes and the expansion of the Greenbelt across South-central Ontario; and currently facilitate the Coalition of Ontario Watershed Guardians.
