Open Arms is a dynamic and growing nonprofit organization dedicated to providing shelter, support, and community services to individuals experiencing homelessness. Rooted in Christian values, our mission is to create lasting, positive change by addressing the root causes of homelessness and fostering a supportive environment for those in need.

At Open Arms, we believe in treating every individual with dignity and respect, recognizing the inherent worth and unique journey of each person. Our commitment to Christian values guides us to acknowledge the sacredness within everyone, embracing the diversity of human experience. Initially established as a Community Chaplaincy/Advocacy for people in need, we were quickly hit with how much need there truly was. In response to those needs, we began a shelter program to complement our front-line advocacy work. 

Several years ago it became clear that we needed a permanent and adequate location to serve our guests and participants, so we purchased a building in Kentville. From this location we run a 20 bed shelter that operates 24/7. 

Many people who come to Open Arms begin taking steps along a positive road towards furthering education, gaining employment, and participation in addiction & Life Skills programs. We have created a safe place for others to simply build positive relationships. Our services and relationship building model are complimented by working collaboratively with other helping agencies. Our Kentville location serves and supports over a hundred individuals each month as well as responding to countless calls for assistance throughout our region.

Open Arms is a place where people can be warm, safe and fed as well as be directed to other relevant community services they may be in need of. Aside from those most basic needs, numerous helps and supports are available at the drop-in breakfast held daily. 

We are currently in the process of exploring affordable housing as there is a desperate need for long term housing for lower income people who are actively seeking help to move forward in their lives.
