Our Mission

The mission of the Osoyoos Museum Society is to collect, preserve, research, document, interpret and exhibit artifacts and archival records of historic significance to the area. We serve the community of Osoyoos and its visitors by carrying out these functions in addition to organizing events to promote the Osoyoos & District Museum and Archives.

The Osoyoos Museum was established in 1963 to tell the general story of the Osoyoos area from its geographical formation to present day and, more specifically, the non-native settlement of the area.  The main goal of the museum is to portray the faces, voices, stories and events which have helped shape our community through a focus on three themes: The Land, The People, and The Industries.

For over 40 years, the Osoyoos Museum has been located in the former curling rink in Gyro Park but the time has come to move to a better, more accessible location which will enhance the protections and display of our collection.

In 2020, the museum will move to a new location at 8702 Main Street across from Town Hall.  Detailed plans have been developed for a new, exciting museum which will meet the needs of residents and visitors alike.  The cost is calculated at $2.5 million. We seek broad support through donations and other contributions for our new enterprise. If you are able to help us raise the needed capital, then please consider making a donation using this website. If you wish further information or prefer to donate directly, you can contact us at info@osoyoosmuseum.ca, 250.495.2582. In addition to raising funds for our new location, we welcome bequests or donations to the Osoyoos Museum Endowment Fund at the Vancouver Foundation to ensure our long-term fiscal health.
