Our Mission

It is the mission of Phakamani Foundation Canada to address the needs of the poor and disadvantaged in southern Africa and to bring relief and assistance to men, women and children without regard to their faith or worldview.

a) To provide opportunities for entrepreneurial minded people in systemic poverty to improve their lives by receiving a micro-loan to either start a new business or enhance an existing one.

b) To strengthen communities among the poor that will enable the poor to rise up out of poverty.

c) To provide training and counsel that will enable the community to work towards the reduction of poverty.

d) To provide guidance and practical help to the poor.

e) To facilitate a positive change in the social, spiritual and economic conditions of the poor.

About Phakamani Foundation Canada

Phakamani Foundation helps families lift themselves out of poverty. We provide microenterprise loans, training, and on-going support for poor entrepreneurs, leading to stable incomes, savings and hope.

Phakamani means "rise up" in Zulu, and is pronounced, "pug-ah-ma-nee".

Phakamani Foundation presently operates in the poorest areas of Southern Africa. We empower poor people who have both good ideas and initiative by giving them a series of business loans, starting as low as $100 to as high as $1500. Success for our members will mean that they no longer fret about most of the things that most westerners take so for granted: a roof that does not leak, at least 2 nutritious meals a day for their family, the ability to pay school fees and books, access to a local health clinic, etc.
