Poetry Gabriola Society is a registered charity, incorporated in 2000 in British Columbia. We operate mainly on Gabriola Island, off Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.

PGS provides support and opportunities for local and regional artists who work with words. We offer grants, book launch support, readings and professional artist’s fees.

We also invite artists of national and international renown to present their work in our island community, which in turn offers them the unique experience of intimate venues, a dedicated audience, and a pastoral setting.

PGS values risk, innovation, and adventure. We have provided a forum for great poetry and extraordinary performance since 2000, and are committed to a culturally diverse program and artistic excellence.

PGS currently produces seasonal readings, Open Mic events, and the ongoing QR Anthology project. Events range from workshops, cabarets, film screenings, site-specific productions and performance art events, all year long. We have presented poets, storytellers, songwriters, string ensembles, musical improvisers, historians, and rock stars, as well as practitioners of spoken word, sound poetry, hip-hop, poly-vocal collaboration and haiku. There is little we shy away from if it is text-based and compelling.

All donations to Poetry Gabriola Society go toward paying artists and producing events.
