Children's French Reading Club
Help us raise $500 CAD to create a more enriching reading club experience!
French is Canada’s second official language with about 350,000 students eligible for minority language learning. In Ontario, learning French as a second language is mandatory for elementary and secondary students. Beginning in grade 4, the York District School Board provides at least 40 minutes of French instruction per day.
The Children’s French Reading Club is an initiative in partnership with U+ Education and the Markham Public Library. On a weekly basis, attendees gather virtually to practice reading out loud in a group setting and improve reading comprehension with a professional French instructor.
- Ages 4-8: Beginner level → Focusing on basic vocabulary, alphabet, colours, and numbers
- Ages 9-15: Intermediate level → Focusing on more advanced French books and aiming to foster French conversation skills
At YRES and with your help, we can:
- Provide extra support for these French learners
- Stimulate interest in Canada’s second language
- Increase the number of sessions
- Expand the quality and quantity of our resources
- Promote bilingualism
Donations made through this campaign page will directly fund our Children's French Reading Club.
