The Bow Island and District Health Foundation believes that everyone is entitled to quality healthcare. The Health Foundation strives to improve the overall health of the communities that it serves by enhancing services which are appropriate to their needs. The Bow Island and District Health Foundation is a not-for-profit, charitable, community focused organization. Donations received by the Bow Island and District Health Foundation stay in the area to enhance healthcare in the communities served by the Bow Island Health Center. Since its inception in 1996, the Bow Island and District Health Foundation has received donations from generous individuals and organizations in the communities served by the Bow Island Health Center. These donations contribute significantly to the quality of healthcare for all residents.
Equipment Purchased: Donated funds have been utilized to purchase equipment for the Bow Island Health Foundation Center, Community Health Services, Alfred Egan Home, Emergency Services and client in need in the community (examples include: Bladder scanner, stretcher foe emergency covered laundry hampers, personal protective equipment supplies and ABBY ( an interactive device for Continuing Care residents)
Programs Funded: Therapeutic Recreation Programs --Ongoing support for the duet bike program including maintenance, repair and purchase of a new motor and helmets. --Annual grant for program support Scholarships: --Offered annually in three different categories in the health care field : --AHS employee for continuing education -- high school student entering a healthcare field -- Student from the service area entering the second or subsequent years in post-secondary health care program. These scholarships are available to anyone within the communities served by the bow Island and District Health Foundation. For ore information call 403-545-3200 (ext 3331).
Palliative Care: --Support the purchase of supplies for palliative patients being cared foe at home. --purchase of equipment, supplies and furniture foe the BIHC palliative are rooms/program. Staff Education/staff Wellness: --Annual grant to support annual education of staff. --Purchase of educational resources. -- Provision of Staff Room supplies....new coffee pot, kettle, beverage supplies and individually wrapped snacks. Public Information/Donor Recognition: --Donor Wall -- Monthly Foundation News in local publications -- Annual Newsletter -- Displays at community events
Fundraising In addition to receiving and soliciting funds foe specific defined program areas such as: Acute Care, Continuing Care, Alfred Egan Home, Palliative Care, Equipment, Education and Staff Wellness,the Bow Island and District Health Foundation is also raising funds to enhance healthcare in the area.
Foundation Activities Include: -- Annual Raffles: annual cash raffle of three cash prizes. Toonie Lottery of 12 monthly cash draws. These raffles support equipment needs designated on an annual basis. --Trees of Hope: annual campaign which runs from November 15 to January 15 in support of the Palliative Care Fund. -- Annual Garage Sale: This community garage sale has garnered tremendous community support through donations of sale items, venue and services. All proceeds are divided equally between the Education/scholarship and Staff Wellness Funds.
