Our Unique Role.

The Fraser Valley Child Development Centre (FVCDC) provides vital community-based services for children and youth with diverse abilities across the Fraser Valley. Serving over 4,000 families each year, our programs focus on early intervention, school-aged support, and specialized care to help children and youth thrive. For over 43 years, our highly skilled and passionate professionals have channeled their expertise into providing education and training, direct services, and consulting support to families in Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack and the Fraser Cascades. We believe every child and youth should have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential in an inclusive, accessible and supportive environment.

The Challenge.

Today's families are complex, with single parenting, blended families, financial stressors and mental health issues. On top of these complexities, having a child with developmental needs brings unique issues and stressors. Very few parents expect to raise a child with physical or intellectual challenges. Diverse abilities come in many forms. They are visible. They are invisible. They cross all ethnicities. They can be overwhelming for children and families who live with them. Unfortunately, despite doing all they can to care for their children, some parents and caregivers are driven to social isolation, burnout, mental health and relationship breakdowns, and in extreme cases, surrendering their children into Ministry care.

The Role of Community Partner Support

With the financial help of Community Partners & Donors, we can continue to break down barriers and support children and youth with diverse abilities and their families. Funding allows us to offer sustainable programming and increase our capacity and services. FVCDC's services have positive ripple effects on local businesses and communities. Support increases the likelihood of these children and youth becoming socially connected to their community as employees, parents, volunteers and consumers.
