MIHRAB ART & CULTURE FOUNDATION

about

Mihrab Art & Culture Foundation

A nonprofit charitable Islamic Arts Society that aims to share the rich heritage of arts in Islam. The society organizes events to celebrate our culture and promote the positive image of our community among Muslims and non-Muslims. Art is a common language and binds diverse communities. By promoting Islamic arts we hope to promote mutual understanding and to bring the broader Canadian community together.

Mihrab Art & Culture Museum represents Islamic art from three continents over 1,400 years. MACF is the second Museum of islamic art in Canada which, under the leadership of its Chairperson & executives will shed light on our origins to illuminate our future. Through safeguarding masterpiece collections of Islamic art and showcasing extraordinary exhibitions, MACF intends to share knowledge by spreading curiosity, cultural orientation, understanding, tolerance and joy.

MACF houses a collection of artistic objects with a mission to serve the cultural, artistic and social needs of our visitors.

VISION

Our vision is that MACF is recognised as the centre of knowledge, dialogue and inspiration that illuminates the arts of Islamic civilisations, opening minds and shaping the future.

The power of art is vital to bringing the story of our cultures to life and to creating its next chapters.

Sharing our knowledge about Islamic Art contributes to open minds.

Mobilizing our museum as a lively space where learning is exciting & accessible.

Exploring themes in art exhibitions to create a space that encounters the material culture of Islamic Art through its visual language.

Raising questions of cultural significance for each art exhibition that will build cross cultural tolerance through respect and appreciation of beauty.

OUR PRIORITIES

In order to deliver on such a big social & cultural ambition for MACF Museum, we developed three strategic priorities.

Taking Museum Beyond Four Walls

This is taking the cultural experience beyond the four walls of a museum through virtual reality technology

so more people can take part nationwide in Canada and the world at large.

Nurturing Emerging Talent

This is creating the conditions for creativity and cultivating new talents, inspiring new generation of cultural producers.

Creating a Platform For The Brushes Of Canadian Muslims Artists

This is taking our own distinctive place within national debates on culture, innovation and creativity, developing our own visual language, conveying our own cultural massage, and highlighting our own stars.

In 2007, Islamic History Month (IHM) was proclaimed by the honorable and  indeparted, Mauril Belanger, MP, for Ottawa-Vanier. Since then IHMC has been proclaimed in provinces and municipalities across Canada and community members and organizations such as MACF have hosted countless events every year bringing communities together to share and learn from one another.
