The foundation was originally founded in 2009, formally known as Friends of Families, renamed under Tailwind Foundation after it became a registered non-profit in 2018. The organization is dedicated to supporting newly arriving refugees and low-income families within the Lower Mainland. We have assisted over 700 families with the help of our many donors and volunteers that share in our belief and passion to help people and our planet.
Most of the families that we support have just arrived in Canada with basically nothing, very little or poor English Language skills and no family here to support them. Other families come from poverty, are escaping violence, or have just fallen on hard times. We reduce landfill waste by collecting donated furniture, household appliances and other basic living necessities from local people and deliver them to these families so that they can settle and have a place to call home.
What People Are Saying
"We loved every family we delivered to and heard many stories, we cried almost every time and talked about how we are so lucky and privileged here and just a little donation from us makes a huge impact on these families lives…"
— Lori Ishikawa - Founder of Friends of Families
