Together, we are working to conserve the precious and irreplaceable Carden Alvar. Participants count as many species as possible in 24 hours and raise funds to protect this globally rare landscape.
This year's Challenge looks a bit different. Teams of 3 -5 people count as many species as possible between Friday, May 29th at 6:00pm and Saturday, May 30th at 6:00pm but do so in their own neighbourhoods. We will still use the Carden Checklist and if team members happen to live near each other, can go out together at a safe distance from each other.
Funds raised from the Carden Challenge support stewardship efforts of the alvar. The alvar is home to many species at risk like Eastern Loggerhead Shrike and Blanding's Turtles. Every year people are drawn to this area as a place of solace and inspiration. Work continues amidst the pandemic to care for this area. The mission to protect nature endures.
