How your gift will open doors to a better life for thousands
of people locally
There are more than 15,000 people that live in poverty in Sault Ste. Marie and the Algoma district. These individuals and families are making impossible choices like whether to put food on the table or pay the rent. Poverty touches every aspect of a person’s life, making it difficult to get ahead and realize a future full of possibilities.
One of United Way Canada's focus area is moving people from poverty to possibility. The United Way of Sault Ste. Marie & Algoma District is focusing on three priority areas to reduce poverty locally: Essential Services, Workforce Entry and Food Security. Our programs identify and remove barriers to access basic needs, education and employment, helping people realize their full potential.
“Before Journey to Success, I lacked confidence in myself. I did not know what my learning disability was or what my areas of needs are… the program helped me understand my learning style and inspired me to embrace my strengths as I improve my performance at school.” Amanda.
The Journey to Success Program at the Learning Disabilities Association works one-on-one with students and provides them with the resources they need to achieve academic, social and emotional success.
