Providing emergency shelter, transitional housing, and counselling services to women and children experiencing violence in Huron County.
Our mission at Artemis Huron is to end violence against women and their children, support trauma recovery, and provide access to resources and opportunities that increase independence.
We serve women and children who have or are experiencing gender-based violence (women abuse). Huron Women’s Shelter, Second Stage Housing and Counselling Services is dedicated to women’s safety, healing, empowerment, and leadership.
We provide Emergency Shelter with a 10-bed facility in Goderich with 24 hr. staffing, and a 24 hrs. a day 7 days a week crisis line for emotional support, safety planning, referrals and information for women living in community and/or our transitional living apartments. Our Second Stage Housing program offers geared to income transitional housing (22 apartments) in Exeter, Clinton, and Goderich – each with counsellors on-site.
An Outreach Counsellor is also available and can meet with women in their home communities. Counselling for children and youth who have witnessed or experienced violence is available at the shelter, second stage and in schools throughout the county. Group counselling sessions are offered throughout the year for women and children at various locations.
The Family Court Support program assists women who have experienced domestic violence and are moving through the Family Court System. Trained staff provide information, advocacy, referrals, debriefing, court accompaniment and more.
We accept donations of material goods at the shelter location in Goderich anytime. Particular items needed are non-perishable food, twin size pillows, sheets and micro-fleece blankets, bath towels and gift cards to assist women in establishing their households.
