What We Do
Habitat for Humanity (HFHPEI) is a non-profit helping families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable home ownership opportunities. Habitat homeowners are empowered to overcome the barriers that so often stand between their families and better, healthier, more financially stable lives.
Why support Habitat PEI, when there are so many worthwhile causes out there? For every $1 invested in Habitat PEI, there’s an incredible $4 societal return to the community we build in. That’s approximately $179,000 return for every Habitat PEI home built.
That’s a big claim—we know.
Where do these numbers come from? Well, they come from increased tax revenue, reduced usage of social housing, increased employment stability, improved health behaviors, greater community & civic engagement, among other things.
You see, Habitat PEI doesn’t just do one great thing.
We do a lot of great things.
Provide community-building and learning opportunities:
By engaging the communities we build in and encouraging volunteers of all skill levels to participate in every step of the build process.
Offer housing related technical assistance:
By teaching and training families to build and maintain housing.
Promote innovative housing financing solutions:
By promoting accessible financial solutions for families to improve their housing, financial and personal situations.
Advocate for affordable housing for all:
By organizing public activities, raising awareness, and influencing policies that result in easier access to affordable housing.
Our aim is to foster and build equity through affordable housing by embracing diversity and inclusion. Every individual involved with Habitat is empowered to feel safe and encouraged to bring their whole selves to our mission, and they know they are valued, heard, and respected. This work is carried out through meaningful partnerships and engaged communities.
