As Caroline gets ready to celebrate her 50th birthday this year, she wanted to do something extra special to celebrate. Making a birthday pledge to make an amazing difference, this is Caroline’s giving story.
Instead of celebrating my 50th birthday with a party or an elaborate trip somewhere, my wish is to create an amazing life changing experience for myself and my girlfriends while also giving back. I wanted to have an experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives, and one that will gift us with a feeling of contribution, deeper connection with each other, and the knowledge that we have made a difference. With this wish in mind, I researched different organizations and destinations to make this birthday wish a reality.
Through our partnership with a great registered charitable organization—Live Different—they are helping us to make this happen. Live Different is a charity working to make a difference around the world by working to inspire others through motivational presentations, building homes and schools in developing countries, and providing leadership training to students.
This August, my girlfriends and I will be helping to build a home in Mexico for a deserving family with the goal of handing over the keys the day before my 50th birthday. I am humbled by the support we have received so far, and I feel grateful for Live Different for providing us with the opportunity to give back, and CanadaHelps Fundraising Page for simplified the fundraising piece. We each have a minimum fundraising goal of $1,500 and collectively we will raise over $14,000. We are really proud of this alone and we haven’t even started to build yet.
Regardless of what an individual’s motivation is, I could not imagine a better way to celebrate this milestone birthday, and I couldn’t imagine an easier way to fundraise.
