Co-authored by CEO Duke Chang and Lizz Bryce, the illustrated book encourages kids and families to embrace empathy and the power of giving
Toronto, ON – [September 9, 2025] – CanadaHelps, the country’s largest platform for donating and fundraising online, is proud to announce the launch of Violet’s Song, a new children’s picture book designed to spark generosity, kindness, and community spirit in Canadian kids.
On sale October 6, 2025 and available today for pre-order, Violet’s Song is meant for audiences between the ages of four to seven and is available in softcover nationwide, including at CanadaHelps.org. The book is co-authored by Duke Chang and Lizz Bryce, CanadaHelps’ President and Chief Executive Officer and Senior Vice President, Community & Strategic Initiatives, respectively. The book is illustrated by Vancouver illustrator, Sakshi Mangal.
The beautifully illustrated story follows Violet the purple finch, whose songs are the soundtrack of the forest. When Violet is hurt, her friend Scarlett Squirrel must overcome her doubts and inspire the other animals to work together to help, even when it means giving up something of their own. The heartwarming tale reminds readers that everyone has something to give, and that by uniting as a community, we can accomplish more together.
“Violet’s Song is more than just a children’s story; it’s an invitation to spark generosity at the earliest age,” said Chang. “Through Violet’s journey, we want families to start meaningful conversations about kindness, empathy, and community, and to help kids see that they too have the power to give and make a difference.”
For 25 years, CanadaHelps has sparked generosity and powered positive change towards a world where everyone can thrive. With Violet’s Song, the organization is extending that mission to its youngest readers and their families — encouraging empathy, kindness, and the joy of giving.
To support young readers on their generosity journey, CanadaHelps has developed free resources for teachers and other adults to use as a guide to talk to children about how they can be generous. These resources include lesson plans, activity sheets, and more and can be downloaded here.
