How Toshiba Supports GivingTuesday All Year-Round

As a global corporate citizen, we at Toshiba understand our responsibility to help build a healthier, happier and more sustainable future for our kids. Our slogan is “Committed to People. Committed to the Future” and we live by that every day, all year-round through CSR management and social contributions by our employees worldwide.

CSR Management

CSR management means giving top priority to human life, safety, and legal compliance. In 2004 Toshiba became a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, which defines universal principles covering human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption. We are working to fulfill our role as a leading global enterprise in all these areas.

Environmental Vision

Being environmentally conscious is one of our top priorities. Toshiba aims to globally raise the eco-efficiency of our products, processes and services tenfold by 2050, an initiative known as ‘Environmental Vision 2050.’ We are also aiming to become the world’s foremost eco-company by next year. At Toshiba Canada, we are proud partners of the Nature Conservancy of Canada helping to conserve our rich biodiversity, and we are recipients of numerous environmental awards recognizing our greening efforts.

Global Corporate Social Responsibility Month

While we are always dedicated to our social and environmental efforts, December is an extra special month, known asToshiba’s Global Corporate Social Responsibility Month. It is a time when Toshiba Canada and all its employees come together to jointly support several charitable programs and give back to those who need it most. Partnering with GivingTuesday was a natural fit and we’re proud to be supporting the movement again this year.

In past years, we have supported organizations such as Red Cross, Food Banks Canada, The Salvation Army and the York Region Children’s Aid Society Holiday Heroes program to name a few. We typically organize fun and engaging employee fundraising events throughout December such as bake sales, food drives and raffles, and whatever our employees raise is then matched by Toshiba and donated.

This year, on December 5th, ten Toshiba Canada executive team members  will participate in the Habitat for Humanity Adopt a Day program and spend the day building a home for a GTA family in need. For the fourth year in a row, we will also be supporting the York Region Children’s Aid Society Holiday Heroes program which involves helping local families in need for the holiday season and fulfilling their wish list of clothing, toys, food and monetary donations. Lastly, we will host a silent auction where employees are asked to donate their crafts, baked goods or services to the auction. Proceeds will be donated to Food Banks Canada.

As a company and as individuals, we strongly believe in devoting the time and effort to give back to those who need it most. It is a great way to fulfill our corporate commitment to social responsibility, but more importantly there’s no better gift than knowing that you have brightened someone’s day and improved their life in some way.
