Lung cancer changed my life forever as it was the illness which took my father early from my life. We all hear of people who are sick and fighting the battle of their lives, however until it hits home you just don't understand to the full extent. And then, gosh darn it, if every one of our members don’t go and write their $100 cheques to that one charity! Wow... 100+ Men x 100 Dollars = $10,000+….. That is BIG! Fundraise

I give to several food banks around me, ones near where I work, where I go to Church and live. I believe strongly in taking care of those in need and we often give to the "food drives". But working in the charitable sector I know that capacity goes well beyond traditional donations. So I'll be helping to raise awareness and fundraise for foodbanks, for donations so they can increase their capacity and impact by doing things like buying industrial freezers . Food banks, more than just food!

I've seen first hand the great work that many charities do. I'm going to write a personal note to my friends sharing how charity has helped me and people I care about when we were in need. I hope through my story they might consider supporting a charity's whose work they value.

The library saved my life, my brain, my soul and continues to enrich my life. Rather than give old books I want their unique programs and collections to grow. My taxes only pay for light, heat and buildings and not the cool stuff that supports innovation - and so I make my annual gift on GivingTuesday. In gratitude, in hope for the future. Beyond just books, to connected community and in pursuit of knowledge. Libraries are VITAL!

I'm supporting newborn and maternal healthcare on GivingTuesday because I'm lucky enough to live in Canada where my newborn and I receive exceptional care for free - but millions of women and babies worldwide continue to die each year from inadequate care. I'll also be spreading the word about the day because it is important to me that the movement continues to grow.

This year I'm going to do more than just donate food. I'm going to get involved. I'm committing to become a volunteer.

I'm spreading the word and donating. I'm giving my friends and sisters a CanadaHelps Charity Gift Card. They can give it to a favourite charity of their choice on GivingTuesday!

West End Food Co-op is about supporting local farmers and creating programs that give people in-need opportunities to contribute to the community, and earn "credits" so they too can afford healthy, organic food. I think this is such an important cause!

Spread the Word

On #GivingTuesdayCA I plan to spread the word on social media about the importance of animal welfare charities. I also will be donating to some specific animal focused charities which are in my local community.
